Calcium formate 98% is a white crystalline powder at room temperature, produced by the reaction of formic acid and calcium carbonate. Its molecular formula is Ca(HCOO)₂, with a molecular weight of 130.0 and a CAS number of 544-17-2. It is highly soluble in water, dissociating into calcium ions (Ca²⁺) and formate ions (HCOO⁻), resulting in a weakly alkaline solution with a pH of 8.0–8.5. The compound exhibits excellent chemical stability, remaining undecomposed even at 130°C.
